Curtis Knight & The Squires (feat. Jimi Hendrix) – You Can't Use My Name - The RSVP / PPX Sessions
Curtis Knight and The Squires were a New York band that was fronted by singer and guitarist Curtis Knight, formed in 10 June 1965. Both Jimi Hendrix and sax player Lonnie Youngblood were members for a while. The band is referred to as a workaday party R&B band by Billboard. The line up of the group wasn't always with the same musicians. Sax player Lonnie Youngblood had been a member. The line up pictured on the cover of the You Can't Use My Name: The RSVP/PPX Sessions album features Curtis Knight, Jimi Hendrix, Marion Booker and Ace Hall.
At some stage in 1964, Hendrix met Knight in the lobby of a Harlem residential hotel and they hit it off. Hendrix became a member of the band Curtis Knight and the Squires in October the following year. While with the band, Hendrix signed a contract with the owner of PPX Studios, Ed Chaplin for just one dollar. This would later cause major problems for Hendrix. He finally left The Squires on May 20, 1966.

Sam & Dave – The Definitive Soul Collection 30 track compilation
Sam & Dave were an American soul and R&B duo who performed together from 1961 until 1981. The tenor (higher) voice was Sam Moore (1935–2025) and the baritone/tenor (lower) voice was Dave Prater (1937–1988).
Nicknamed "Double Dynamite", "The Sultans of Sweat", and "The Dynamic Duo" for their gritty, gospel-infused performances, Sam & Dave are considered one of the greatest live acts of the 1960s. Many subsequent musicians have named them as an influence, including Bruce Springsteen, Al Green, Tom Petty, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Steve Van Zandt, Elvis Costello, The Jam, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Joel, and Steve Winwood. The Blues Brothers, who helped create a resurgence of popularity for soul, R&B, and blues in the 1980s, were influenced by Sam & Dave – their biggest hit was a cover of "Soul Man", and their act and stage show contained many homages to the duo.
According to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Sam & Dave were the most successful soul duo and brought the sounds of the black gospel church to pop music with their call-and-response records.

Jack Scott – Baby She's Gone - 50 brooding rock and roll classics
Jack Scott (born January 24, 1936, Windsor, Ontario, Canada – died December 12, 2019, Warren, Michigan, USA) was a Canadian/American singer and songwriter. He was the first white rock and roll star to come out of Detroit, Michigan. He has been called "undeniably the greatest Canadian rock and roll singer of all time."
Scott had more U.S. singles (19), in a shorter period of time (41 months), than any other recording artist - with the exception of The Beatles. Scott wrote all of his own hits, except one: "Burning Bridges".
His legacy ranks him with the top legends of rock and roll. It has been said that "with the exception of Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley, no white rock and roller of the time ever developed a finer voice with a better range than Jack Scott, or cut a more convincing body of work in Rockabilly, Rock and Roll, Country-Soul, Gospel, Country-Pop or Blues".

Gotta Get A Good Thing Goin' (Black Music In Britain In The Sixties) - various artists compilation
Gotta Get A Good Thing Goin' is the first box set to document the huge influence of Black music in Britain in the 1960s. With 115 tracks, the compilation pays tribute to a lost era. While many of the decade's most successful UK bands (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones et al) were originally inspired and influenced by Black American soul and R&B, it could be argued that Black artists recording in Britain at the time weren't given the exposure they deserved. The first two discs document the explosion of homegrown Soul and Rhythm and Blues which reflected the growing success of labels such as Motown and Stax/ Atlantic, which spearheaded the plethora of Black music emanating from the States. However, Soul and R&B aren't the only genres catered for here. While Disc 3 is devoted to the homespun Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae from artists who'd often been born in the Caribbean, Disc 4 reflects a wider range of styles including choice selections from many stars of their day. The collection boasts numerous tracks new to CD and includes many 45s which now command three figure sums on the collector's market. This is a fitting homage to a golden era in Black British music.
