Bobby Vee and The Shadows – The Early Rockin' Years

Bobby Vee's career began in the midst of tragedy. On February 3, 1959, "The Day the Music Died", three of the four headline acts in the line-up of the traveling Winter Dance Party, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, were killed in the crash of a V-tailed 1947 Beechcraft Bonanza airplane, along with the 21-year-old pilot, Roger Peterson. (Dion DiMucci, the fourth headliner, had opted to not travel on the plane.) It crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa, en route to the next show on the tour itinerary, in Moorhead, Minnesota. Vee, then 15 years old, and a hastily assembled band of Fargo schoolboys (including his older brother Bill) calling themselves The Shadows, volunteered for and were given the job of filling in for Holly and his band at the Moorhead engagement. Their performance there was a success and started Vee's career as a popular singer.

In 1963, Vee released a tribute album on Liberty Records called I Remember Buddy Holly. In the liner notes, he recalled Holly's influence on him and the events surrounding Holly's death, describing how he had looked forward to attending the concert, how the local radio station put out a call for local talent to fill after the disaster, and how Vee's recently organized group, modelled on Holly's style, had to make up a name (The Shadows) on the spot.

Vee became a star, and he performed regularly at Winter Dance Party memorial concerts in Clear Lake. His three sons, all musicians, performed with him there.

This 20 track compilation was released in 1995 on ERA Records..

Gone Hepsville – Lotsa Rhythm

These six boys from the city of Brno (Czech Republic) had been rockin' together for more than a decade in a rock'n'roll revival band The Fireballs (CZ), learning the ins and outs of the genre from the masters like Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, The Treniers, Jimmy Cavello, Freddie Bell or The Big Six. After 10 years, they decided it was time to move into somewhat more demanding territory and formed a pure and authentic jiving combo called GONE HEPSVILLE.

They write their own songs, they arrange them in a ways that make them totally irresistible, but, most importantly, these cats are here to get you jumpin' on the dance floor like crazy. So you better get going, because everyone else has already gone.

Lotsa Rhythm is their debut album from 2014, with a generous 18 tracks of rockin' , jumpin' and swingin' tunes. Get hip!!

Sam & Dave – Soul Men - classic Stax soul album from 1967

Sam & Dave were an American soul and R&B duo who performed together from 1961 until 1981. The tenor (higher) voice was Sam Moore (born 1935) and the baritone/tenor (lower) voice was Dave Prater (1937–1988).

Nicknamed "Double Dynamite", "The Sultans of Sweat", and "The Dynamic Duo" for their gritty, gospel-infused performances, Sam & Dave are considered one of the greatest live acts of the 1960s. Many subsequent musicians have named them as an influence, including Bruce Springsteen, Al Green, Tom Petty, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Steve Van Zandt, Elvis Costello, The Jam, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Joel, and Steve Winwood. The Blues Brothers, who helped create a resurgence of popularity for soul, R&B, and blues in the 1980s, were influenced by Sam & Dave – their biggest hit was a cover of "Soul Man", and their act and stage show contained many homages to the duo.

The Soul Men LP (October 1967) was Sam & Dave's third Stax LP (R&B #5/Pop #68). Musicologist Rob Bowman called Soul Men "One of the greatest soul music albums of all time." "Don't Knock It" from the LP was released as a single in France, but other songs were not released as U.S. singles due to the long run by "Soul Man" on the Pop charts (15 weeks), by which time "I Thank You/Wrap It Up" was ready for release. "May I Baby", the B-side of "Soul Man", is also regarded as a classic song on the LP by Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles" guide, and was a popular live song performed frequently by Sam & Dave.
