The Earls – Remember Then! 25 Original Classics

The Earls, often credited as Larry Chance and the Earls, is an American popular music group formed in The Bronx, New York. In a career spanning over 60 years they formed in the early 1960's, though their roots can be traced back to 1957 in a group called the High-Hatters. They were one of the most accomplished white doo-wop groups of the early 1960's, especially in their home state of New York. In 1962, they became known for their signature hit single "Remember Then", which still remains a staple of doo-wop music. Later in their career they experienced moderate success with songs such as "Life Is But a Dream", "Never" and "I Believe". In the 1970's and 1980's, an oldies revival scene began and the Earls re-experienced success and became one of the most requested popular groups in the doo-wop genre. The group still continues to perform.

Other recordings include "Looking For My Baby" and "Kissing." Albums included Remember Me Baby, The Earls: Today, The Earls – Live, Earl Change, and Streets of the Bronx.

Since the group's inception in the early 1960's, singer Larry Chance fronted and led the Earls, being the sole continuous and only original remaining member of the group, until his death in 2023.

Jo Ann Campbell ‎– That Real Gone Gal - the complete Gone and Roulette recordings

Jo Ann Campbell (born July 20, 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida) is an American pop singer.

Campbell began attending music school at the age of four, and won many honors as a drum majorette at Fletcher High School. In 1954 she travelled Europe as a dancer, then moved to New York, where she joined the Johnny Conrad Dancers and made several television appearances on shows such as The Milton Berle Show and The Colgate Comedy Hour.

In 1956, Campbell decided to quit dancing and become a singer. She received her first recording contract with RKO-Point Records in New York and released her debut single "Where Ever You Go" / "I'm Coming Home Late Tonight" with them in 1956. It was unsuccessful and she then signed a recording contract with Eldorado Records after performing at Harlem's Apollo Theater. She wrote and released her second single, "Come On Baby" in 1957. Later that year she released "Wait a Minute", and appeared at the Brooklyn Paramount and on Dick Clark's American Bandstand show.

Campbell appeared in two films: Go, Johnny, Go (1959) and Hey, Let's Twist! (1962), while continuing to release records. In June 1961 she reached No. 41 in the UK Singles Chart with "Motorcycle Michael". She had her biggest hit in August 1962 with "I'm the Girl from Wolverton Mountain", an answer song to Claude King's "Wolverton Mountain". Some pressings showed the title as "(I'm the Girl on) Wolverton Mountain". The song reached No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In April 1963, she followed up with "Mother, Please! (I'd Rather Do It Myself)", a take-off on an Anacin television commercial of the day, but this reached No. 88.

After marrying Atlantic Records record producer Troy Seals in 1964, Campbell left the music industry.

Since I Fell For You...The Essential Annie Laurie

Annie Laurie (tentatively identified as Annie L. Page, August 11, 1924 – November 13, 2006) was an American jump blues and rhythm and blues singer. She is most associated with the bandleader and songwriter, Paul Gayten, although she also registered hit singles in her own name. Laurie first recorded in the mid-1940s and her professional career lasted until the early 1960s.

Reportedly Dinah Washington's favourite singer, and an influence on vocal stylists like Billy Wright and Joe Williams, ANNIE LAURIE was one of the outstanding R&B/Jump Blues singers of the immediate post-WWII era.

This compilation presents the very best of her recordings between 1947-62 and is a must-have for collectors as it includes sides which have never previously appeared on CD, notably her very first release, 'St. Louis Blues'.

She recorded prolifically in the late 40s and early 50s, for six different labels, enjoying both R&B and crossover Pop success, before suddenly retiring from singing in 1962, to devote her life to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Her biggest success - and her signature song - was 'Since I Fell For You', in 1947, following which she also registered with 'Cuttin' Out', 'I'll Never Be Free', 'It Hurts To Be In Love' and 'If You're Lonely'.

She also enjoyed regional success on the Cashbox New Orleans "Hot" Chart with releases like 'Annie's Blues', 'I Ain't Gonna Let You' and 'My Rough And Ready Man'.

Ruth Brown....The Essential Recordings...40 tracks

Ruth Alston Brown (née Weston, January 12, 1928 – November 17, 2006) was an American singer-songwriter and actress, sometimes known as the "Queen of R'n'B". She was noted for bringing a pop music style to R'n'B music in a series of hit songs for Atlantic Records in the 1950s, such as "So Long", "Teardrops from My Eyes" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean". For these contributions, Atlantic became known as "the house that Ruth built" (alluding to the popular nickname for the old Yankee Stadium). Brown was a 1993 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Following a resurgence that began in the mid-1970s and peaked in the 1980s, Brown used her influence to press for musicians' rights regarding royalties and contracts; these efforts led to the founding of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. Her performances in the Broadway musical Black and Blue earned Brown a Tony Award, and the original cast recording won a Grammy Award. Brown was a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. In 2017, Brown was inducted into National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. She is also the aunt to legendary hip hop MC Rakim.

Bill Haley...From Western Swing To Rock..Essential Collection

There is no denying Bill Haley's influence on popular music and, in particular, Rock and Roll. Whilst he is best known for "Rock Around the Clock", his beginnings were in Country and Western Swing, and his progression to his more famous rock and roll tracks made him a legend. This collection brings together tracks from his earlier days with The Four Aces and The Saddlemen and onto the classic Comets recordings and even offshoots from The Comets, The Jodimars and The Jaguars.

With over 100 tracks, this compilation will have you swinging, rocking, rolling, jiving and everything else in between.

This 7 minute YouTube clip is from a 1954 short film entitled "Roundup of Rhythm" and shows the Comets live performing "Crazy, Man, Crazy", "Straightjacket" and "Shake, Rattle and Roll".

Hank Williams...40 Greatest Hits

Hank Williams, Sr. (September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953), born Hiram King Williams, was an American singer-songwriter and musician. Regarded as one of the most significant country music artists, Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country and Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked number one.

Born in Mount Olive, Butler County, Alabama, Williams moved to Georgiana, where he met Rufus Payne, a black street performer who gave him guitar lessons in exchange for meals or money. Payne had a major influence on Williams' later musical style. During this time, Williams informally changed his name to Hank, believing it to be a better name for country music. He moved to Montgomery and his music career began there in 1937 when WSFA radio station producers hired him to perform and host a 15-minute program. He formed as backup the Drifting Cowboys band, which was managed by his mother, and dropped out of school to devote his time to his career.

When several of his band members were conscripted into military service during World War II, Williams had trouble with their replacements and was dismissed by WSFA due to his alcoholism. Williams eventually married Audrey Sheppard, who managed the singer for nearly a decade. After recording "Never Again" and "Honky Tonkin'" with Sterling Records, he signed a contract with MGM Records. In 1948 he released "Move it on Over", which became a hit, and also joined the Louisiana Hayride radio program. One year later, he released a cover of "Lovesick Blues", which carried him into the mainstream of music. After an initial rejection, Williams joined the Grand Ole Opry. He had 11 number one songs between 1948 and 1953, though he was unable to read or notate music to any significant degree. Among the hits he wrote were "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Hey, Good Lookin'", and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry".

Several years of back pain, alcoholism and prescription drug abuse severely deteriorated Williams's health; he divorced Audrey and was dismissed by the Grand Ole Opry, citing unreliability and frequent drunkenness. Williams died in the early morning hours of New Years Day in 1953 at the age of 29 from heart failure exacerbated by pills and alcohol. Despite his short life, Williams has had a major influence on twentieth-century popular music. The songs he wrote and recorded have been covered by numerous artists, and have been hits in various genres including pop, gospel, and blues. He has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.

If you're a Country music fan you will know all about Hank Williams. If you are not, then you should. The man is a music legend and has influenced countless other artists. There are many complilations of his music available, and this is a good place to start.
