The Note Records Story (Rockin’ With Rhythm And Blues)

The Note label was in existence from 1955 to 1959. It operated out of Indianapolis, Indiana, and featured Rhythm and Blues, Rock'n'Roll and Jazz.

For a label which never came close to having a hit record, it managed to lease an extraordinary number of its releases to larger labels. Its leasing partners were the Chess label complex of Chicago, and later ABC-Paramount and its subsidiaries of New York. Like so many other labels of the 1950's, Note Records was able to draw on local talent which had been overlooked by the bigger labels centered in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles.
